NUMERACY
Dear families,
As with reading daily, regular math practice at home is essential. Sharing our own interests in numeracy will help model the love of numeracy for our students. As with reading, math practice should be engaging. Math games are an excellent way create meaningful learning opportunities for your children at home-and can involve the whole family! Please see the variety of math resources below.
Some ideas to help your child recognize math in the real world by:
• Grocery shopping: estimating totals, comparing prices, being aware of the various costs, amount of change, budgeting, quantity, estimating amount
• Cooking: measuring ingredients, doubling a recipe
• Clock- practicing telling time and elapsed time
• Calendar & Schedules: keeping track of family events and counting days until
• Driving:
P.S. If you are needing special dice for the math games you can use a online spinner like https://wheeldecide.com/wheels/board-games/dice-12-spinner/ and math chips can be as simple as pieces of coloured paper, coloured rocks, or put games in plastic sleeves and use whiteboard markers. Cheers, Ms. James
